Sore Spots

Q: Why is it when I eat tomato sauce, I get sore spots on my tongue? -Anonymous

A: Sore spots are a sensitivity reaction. Also it sounds like a canker sore. Canker sores are painful sores in your mouth. They are red in color. They can also have a white coating over them. Canker sores can be on the inside of your lips, the insides of your cheeks or under your tongue. Anyone can get canker sores and they are not contagious.

There are usually a few reasons for the sores:

1. Assuming the tomato is organic and ripe, your body is likely acidic and the tongue is reacting as a response and a cleansing reaction.
2. Most likely scenario is that tomato is not organic, so you could be reacting to pesticide residues, poor quality unripe fruit, or it could also be genetically modified (GMO). In this case any type of allergic response is not surprising!
3. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), an ingredient in some toothpastes is a possible culprit.
4. Vitamin B deficiency or high stress could also be a factor.
5. Acid reflux.
6. Steroids and antibiotics can weaken the immune system indirectly causing sore spots.

Natural Remedies

One natural therapy can be sage-and-chamomile mouthwash. Rinse three times a day for a few days.
Natural tissue salt called Kali mur can also work .
Most often the sores will go away faster if you eat more fresh vegetables.

Bottom line for you is to avoid tomatoes until you can get organic in season. Try them then and see if they agree. If not food allergies can take some time to get rid of.

A liver cleanse couple of times a year and a healthier diet can improve your immune system. Periodically try eating them every so often and eventually you should be able to tolerate good quality ripe tomatoes.

Please note: If the sores persist longer than ten days, please consult a doctor!
A much rarer but serious long term scenarios could be cancer or aids related.
