MOST POTENT NATURAL HOUSEHOLD DISENFECTANTS
Also inexpensive and the safest!
by Wayne Gendel
We have been promoting the use of Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide also known as H202 for the last 7 years for cleaning and purifying fruits and vegetables. It will kill all the bacteria and molds and make your vegetables and fruits stay fresher longer. For those who eat organic, it is a great preventative as some organic food is grown with animal manure. The food grade H202 will destroy this and other harmful bacteria.
Add white or apple cider vinegar (white is usually less expensive) and achieve even more effect – there is new evidence that it is very potent at destroying harmful bacteria! As I say nature usually has the best answers. Well apparently Susan Sumner, a food scientist at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, worked out the recipe for just such a sanitizing combo.
All you need is a 3% percent solution of 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide (dilute it to 3% – recipe given in our Healthy Kitchen Manual), plain white or apple cider vinegar and spray bottles that you can purchase at any dollar store. If you’re cleaning vegetables or fruits, spray them well, first with the vinegar and then with the 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide, and then rinse them off under running water. You must use them separately for maximum effect. So use one first then follow by the other!
Study Results:
1. H202 and Vinegar are stronger than any of the commercial cleaners tested.
2. They are safer as they are not harmful to inhale.
3. Inexpensive! Much more economical than store cleaners.
4. They also worked best at cleaning and sanitizing cutting boards and counter tops.
5. Can also be used to disinfect in the bathroom, kitchen, etc.
In tests run at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, pairing both the vinegar and the food grade hydrogen peroxide killed virtually all Salmonella, Shigella, or E-Coli bacteria on heavily contaminated food and surfaces when used in this fashion, making this spray combination more effective at killing these potentially lethal bacteria than chlorine bleach or any commercially available kitchen cleaner.
Please note: The best results came from using the one right after the other – it is 10 times more effective than using either spray by itself and more effective than mixing the vinegar and hydrogen peroxide in one sprayer.
You can make your kitchen a cleaner, safer place and fight bacteria without exposing yourself and your family to toxic chemicals that also damage the environment. You can use a simple, safe disinfecting spray that is more effective than any of the commercial cleaners in killing bacteria. As a bonus, it is inexpensive!
It doesn’t matter which you use first – you can spray with the vinegar then the hydrogen peroxide, or with the hydrogen peroxide followed by the vinegar. You won’t get any lingering taste of vinegar or hydrogen peroxide and neither is toxic to you even if a small amount remains on the produce.
Food grade hydrogen peroxide is also great for plants as it makes them grow faster and healthier, and helps eliminate infestations. For a complete list of uses please refer to our Healthy Kitchen Manual.
