THE MAGIC POWER OF FOOD FOR LIFE EXTENSION Part 2

by Wayne Gendel

There has never in the history of the planet been an over weight or obese 100 year old person!
The more you eat, the harder your body has to work and the more energy is expended for digestion. This drains our life force and speeds up aging. This is one of the major factors behind children maturing at a younger age. Very obese people rarely live past the age of 60. Obesity is considered 25 per cent over ideal weight.

I often get asked how long I would like to live. I will answer this at the end of the article and let’s see if your answer changes by the time you finish reading. It is interesting to note the answers I get when I ask people this question, most say they would like to live until they are 60 to 70 years old, some 80 and fewer yet say 90.

The life spans I have researched range from as low as 59 in Bombay, India to extremes of 100 to 120 or more in the Hunza tribe in Pakistan. The longest documented life span and lowest incidence of illness is in Okinawa, Japan. But, knowing that other cultures are living longer and healthier, why not try to do more of what they do to live longer and healthier. Diet is the biggest factor in the longest-lived cultures.

Let’s follow the healthy crowd!

“The second leading cause of preventable death is… being overweight!”
Edward C. Koop, former Surgeon General of the United States

Chicken breaks the longevity record.

I believe one of the most amazing experiments done in medical science was back in the 1930s. Two-time Nobel Prize winner Dr. Alexis Carrel felt he could indefinitely extend the life span of chicken cells.

A chicken normally lives to be two to three years of age. Dr. Carrel miraculously found that he could get the chicken cells to live to the incredible age of 34! But, even more astonishingly, he felt they could have lived much longer after it was revealed why the cells eventually died. Apparently, one of the scientists conducting the ongoing study forgot to change the solution the cells were in. If the solution was changed the cells might have continued to replicate and live indefinitely!

Would you rather live to eat, or eat to live?

Dr. Roy Walford is a well-known life extension scientist who has written books on his findings regarding life span. He has extended the life span of mice dramatically. In fact, his conclusion is that a 10 to 60 per cent reduction in calories helps to extend the life span of mice and monkeys, and the more the restriction the longer the life span. The bonus is that the calorie-restricted (cr) animals are healthier and have less illness than normally fed animals. Any more or less reduction than the 10 to 60 per cent in calories does not extend life span. The normal lifespan of mice is 39 months. Research studies with Dr. Roy Walford has found that with the cr diet they can extend life span of mice while keeping them healthy to 58 months! That would be the equivalent of 158 years old for humans! The diet must be of high quality foods, no room for empty calories. He also believes in moderate exercise, but emphasizes it is much less important than a quality low calorie diet. One of the reasons the low calorie diet works at extending life span is the fact that it increases and releases more growth hormone!

Dr. Walford has presented laboratory data from rodents to show that blood cholesterol and fasting blood sugar are both decreased in calorie-restricted animals. Also, physical skills were preserved intact in the mice.

In a widely-published study involving humans with a two-year calorie-restricted diet in Biosphere 2 human laboratory results presented by Dr. Walford were the following:

– Blood cholesterol decreased from an average of 198 to something in the range 120 to 125.
– Triglycerides decreased.
– Glycated hemoglobin decreased.
– Fasting blood sugar decreased.
– Insulin levels decreased to less than 5.
– Blood pressure decreased to the range of 95 over 60

Miriam Nelson, Ph.D., author of international bestsellers “Strong Women Stay Young” and “Strong Women Stay Slim”, and assistant professor of nutrition at the School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University has demonstrated that a 95-year-old woman could have the strength of a 50-year-old woman and a 65-year-old woman could be as fit and healthy as a 30-year-old woman!

The good news is we can apply the most important technique – under eating!
